Dan teaches two or three church music courses a year at Pacific School of
Religion
in Berkeley, California. His most popular course is Global Song
which focuses on non-western congregational song. Some of the courses are funded through the Center for the Arts, Religion and Education (CARE), an affiliated center of the Graduate Theological Union.

Dan has led workshops in church music at Scarritt-Bennett Center, Nashville, Tennessee, at national United Methodist gatherings, and at Annual Meetings of the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada. He also teaches a limited number of private students.

In his local parish, Dan actively seeks to enliven congregational singing through teaching new songs and hymns, and creative hymn leadership from the piano.
